Apple Card's 5% Four-Merchant Offer: the Genius Level 2 Fast-Track Is the Real Prize

Apple Card pays 5% at Booking.com, Hertz, Exxon Mobil, and ChargePoint through September 15 — Apple Pay only, $750 combined cap, $37.50 max. The bigger win: one eligible Booking.com booking grants Genius Level 2, which normally takes 5 bookings and pays 10-15% off stays and rental cars for life.

The short version: Apple Card is paying 5% Daily Cash at Booking.com, Hertz, Exxon Mobil, and ChargePoint from August 17 through September 15, 2026. Apple Pay only, and the 5% applies to your first $750 in combined purchases across all four, which caps the extra cash at $37.50. The part worth planning around is not the cash: the offer's fine print says one eligible Booking.com booking earns you Genius Level 2, a status that normally takes 5 completed bookings and then pays 10 to 15 percent off select stays and rental cars for life. Every figure below was read from the offer's own terms, booking.com, and our tracked data, with dates on each.

What the offer says

The offer, as it appears with the card: 5% Daily Cash at Booking.com, Hertz, Exxon Mobil, and ChargePoint, valid August 17 through September 15, 2026, when you pay with Apple Card through Apple Pay. The elevated rate covers your first $750 in combined eligible purchases across the four merchants; after that, these purchases earn at the card's standard Apple Pay rate. There is no enrollment step and the card has no annual fee.

Run the math before rearranging any plans: 5% of the full $750 is $37.50. Real money for buying gas and travel you were buying anyway; not a reason to spend $750 you weren't going to spend.

The layer that outlives September 15

The line most people will scroll past: the offer states that Genius Level 2 is awarded by Booking.com after completing one eligible booking through the offer.

Here is what that shortcut is worth, from Booking.com's own Genius page, read August 19, 2026:

The normal path to Level 2 is completing 5 bookings within 2 years.
Level 2 pays 10 to 15 percent discounts on select stays and select rental cars, plus free breakfasts and free room upgrades at select properties.
Once you unlock a level, Booking.com says the rewards are "yours to enjoy for life." They state they do not demote members.

So one booking this month does what normally takes five, and the thing it unlocks does not expire when the Apple offer does. If you were ever going to try Booking.com, this is the month the first booking counts quadruple.

Stacking each merchant

Booking.com is the strongest stack of the four. When we checked August 18, Rakuten was paying up to 8% cash back on Booking.com, elevated from its usual rate. Click through Rakuten, pay with Apple Card via Apple Pay, and the same reservation earns the portal payout, 5% Daily Cash, progress toward Genius, and the Level 2 grant after it completes. Booking.com's own Travel Credits program was also paying 2% on select bookings when we checked August 16.

Hertz doubles up too: Rakuten was paying 5% on Hertz on August 18, also elevated. Portal plus card is 10% back on a rental before any Genius rental-car discount you may already have.

Exxon Mobil and ChargePoint have no portal layer; neither is a Rakuten merchant. The play there is simply paying for fuel or charging with Apple Pay during the window instead of a card earning less on gas.

The order of operations

Add Apple Card to Apple Pay if it is not there; the 5% only applies to Apple Pay transactions.
For Booking.com or Hertz, start from Rakuten so the portal layer tracks.
Pay with Apple Card through Apple Pay.
If you book a stay, complete it; Genius Level 2 posts after the eligible booking completes, per the offer terms.
Watch the combined total: past $750 across the four merchants, the elevated rate is done.

Worth knowing

Portal rates move without notice. Rakuten's Booking.com and Hertz rates above are what we read on August 18 and both were marked as elevated, which means they can step back down.
Genius discounts apply to select properties and select rental cars, at prices before taxes and fees, per Booking.com's page.
Booking.com counts each reservation as one booking regardless of nights or rooms, and excludes some booking types from Genius progress, including free options and add-on purchases.
Daily Cash lands as you spend it, not as a statement credit you have to hunt for.
