TL;DR
The bank's screen is not always the whole story. Amex's 15% bonus to Avianca LifeMiles in July never appeared in Amex's transfer screen, because Avianca paid the bonus on its side after the points arrived. If a bonus is announced by the airline rather than the bank, expect it to post late and on the airline's side.
Your tier can set the bonus. Bilt's Rent Day bonus to Virgin Atlantic on September 1 was 75% at Platinum, 45% at Gold, 35% at Silver and 25% at Blue. The headline number was the top tier's.
Stacks are where the value was. KLM's 10,000 bonus miles on new US economy bookings, a promotion that ran until the end of August 2026, stacked with a targeted Amex Offer paying 20,000 points on the same purchase, so one Europe flight returned more than 30,000 points before the flight was flown.
A bonus needs a target. The May 2026 set (Chase to Marriott 55%, Chase to Southwest 30%, Chase to Flying Blue 20%, Amex to Hilton 20%) sorted itself by what a real night or seat cost after the bonus, not by the percentage. The biggest number was not the best deal.
Two worked examples on this site: Dallas to Madrid for 20,000 Avios, which the Amex 30% bonus turns into 16,000 points, and the World of Hyatt guide, where Chase points transfer at 1:1 and a bonus rarely appears.
Amex Membership Rewards is paying 30% on transfers to British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus until September 27, 2026, so 1,000 points land as 1,300 Avios. We priced it against a real seat: Dallas to Madrid on Iberia for 20,000 Avios becomes a 16,000-point seat, and the business seat at 50,500 Avios becomes 39,000 points.
