TL;DR
- Iberia flies Dallas to Madrid nonstop. On off-peak dates it prices the flight at 20,000 Avios each way in economy, 36,750 in premium economy and 50,500 in business, plus taxes and fees. The economy seat we priced came to 20,000 Avios plus $102.40 at checkout.
- Amex Membership Rewards is paying a 30% bonus on transfers to Iberia, British Airways and Aer Lingus through September 27, 2026. A one-way economy seat costs 16,000 Amex points. Business is 39,000.
- Searching is free. The reward flight search on avios.com shows a whole month of dates with the price and the number of seats. No paid award tool needed.
- Price is not the problem, seats are. The return we found on Thanksgiving Day had 2 economy seats and 1 business seat left.
Dallas to Madrid: what the search showed

For the November 3 economy seat it read 20,000 Avios plus $102.40, labelled "Including all taxes, fees, and carrier charges". Why 20,000: Iberia's off-peak chart
Iberia Club prices its own flights by distance band and season, and the chart is public on iberia.com. Dallas to Madrid falls in band 6, the 4,001 to 5,500 mile band, the same band Iberia lists for Los Angeles and Miami. Boston, Chicago and New York sit one band lower, and cheaper.

Iberia's own note under the chart: "A return ticket costs twice as much as a single fare." So Dallas to Madrid and back in economy is 40,000 Avios on off-peak dates, and 101,000 in business.
Both November dates we searched, including Thanksgiving Day, came back at the off-peak numbers. Iberia's chart page says its peak and off-peak dates differ from British Airways' dates, and we could not find the Iberia calendar published in English, so the practical test is the price on the results page. If economy shows 20,000 from Dallas, the date is off-peak. If it shows 24,250, it is peak.
The Amex math until September 27
Amex Membership Rewards transfers to Iberia Club at 1:1, and from August 3 through September 27, 2026 every 1,000 points land as 1,300 Avios. That is the whole trick. The chart does not change; the number of Amex points you need does. It is one of the transfer bonuses live this September.

Without the bonus, the same seats cost the Avios figure in points, from any of these programs at 1:1: Amex, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Bilt and Wells Fargo all transfer straight to Iberia. Capital One transfers to British Airways Club, and Citi ThankYou transfers to Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and both of those can then be moved into Iberia Club for free (more on that below). Marriott Bonvoy transfers at 3:1, which is a poor use of Marriott points for this.
One rule that never changes: search first, transfer second. A transfer to an airline cannot be undone. Find the seats, then move the points, then book.
How to search for free
- Go to avios.com, choose Spend Avios, then search reward flights. It asks you to sign in with an Avios account (the login page is British Airways Club's).
- Enter the two airports and a month. The results show each date with the Avios price per cabin and how many seats are left, so you can see the whole month at once.
- The search lives in the URL. Ours for Dallas to Madrid in November 2026 was

Before you press Select
Know which chart you are looking at. Our search and checkout ran on avios.com, signed in with a British Airways Club login, and it priced the Iberia flight at Iberia's chart: 20,000 Avios plus $102.40. Iberia's chart page adds a warning worth reading twice: British Airways "applies different prices in Peak and Off Peak season" and its peak dates "are different than the ones Iberia applies". So if you price the same flight on ba.com instead of avios.com, expect a different number on some dates, and compare before you book. Avios move freely between the programs: British Airways says you can transfer Avios between British Airways Club, Iberia Club and AerClub "as often as you like", and the transfer page on avios.com adds one condition, "Your accounts must be at least 30 days old", with the same name, date of birth and email on both. So open the Iberia Club account now, not the week you want to book, and you can book from whichever program shows the lower number.
Know the fare rules. Iberia's award fares in economy are its Basic fare. From Iberia's FAQ: "Basic: Changes are allowed before the departure of flight with a penalty of €25/$40 and are non-refundable." Premium Economy Comfort and Business Comfort awards allow changes and refunds up to 24 hours before departure with the same €25/$40 penalty.
Book on iberia.com, not by phone. Iberia's chart notes that Avios bookings for its own flights are free of booking fees on iberia.com, with an extra charge per ticket through its Service Centre.
Watch the seat count. Avios seats are a set-aside, not the whole cabin. The Thanksgiving return had 2 economy seats and 1 business seat when we looked. A price is only a deal if the seat is still there when your points arrive.
Do not let leftover Avios sit for years. Iberia Club expires Avios after 36 months with no transaction on the account, and moving Avios between programs does not count as a transaction.
The short version
