Chase to Marriott 70% Transfer Bonus: Worth It? One Case Says Yes

This offer ended on October 15, 2026. Chase's 70% transfer bonus to Marriott Bonvoy ended October 15, 2026. The Westin Bora Bora's award rates and Marriott's fifth night free still apply; without the bonus the same five nights cost 373,000 Chase points.

Every rate below was read on marriott.com on Friday, October 9, 2026, for one room and two adults, with the Points toggle on unless noted. Award prices move daily; the number on Marriott's page when you book is the only one that counts.

The short version: If you think Chase's 70% Marriott bonus is not for you, the math agrees with you on most days. A Chase Ultimate Rewards point is worth about 2 cents and a Marriott point about 0.77, so 1,000 Chase points become 1,700 Marriott points worth about $13, against the $20 the same points return on a good airline transfer. We said skip it in our October roundup. Then we priced overwater villas. Until Thursday, October 15, 2026, five nights in an overwater villa run 220,000 to 282,000 Chase points at hotels that charge $1,178 to $2,185 a night in cash, so the five nights are worth $6,470 to $10,925 in room rate. The same points buy $4,400 to $5,640 of hotel on a normal day at our 2-cent value, so the gap, $2,070 to $5,285, is what you are saving, and the point is worth 2.5 to 3.9 cents instead of 2. The W Maldives is the best of them: five nights in a Superior Overwater Villa with its own pool, $10,925 in cash, for 282,000 Chase points in late January, or $5,890 of villa for 236,000 points in late May. The Westin Bora Bora is the cheapest in points: 220,000 for five nights, 44,000 a night, in an overwater bungalow that costs 149,300 XPF a night in cash, about $6,470 of room for the five nights. Two things do it, one Marriott rule and one Chase bonus that ends October 15 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Both are explained below, with every rate read on Marriott's own site. The resort fees are still paid in cash, and four Marriott overwater resorts fail the same test.

Chase points are worth 2 cents. This week, at five hotels, up to 3.9.

We value a Chase point at 2.0 cents because that is what the airline transfers reliably return, and a Marriott point at 0.77 cents. Run the bonus through those numbers and it loses: 1,000 Chase points become 1,700 Marriott points worth about $13, against $20 of airline value. That is why we told readers in our October roundup to pass on this bonus, and on a typical Marriott night that advice stands. These five windows are the exception, and the reason is the cash rate: a $2,000 overwater villa is the one thing Marriott points buy at a premium.

Hotel, standard award room Five nights Chase points, with the bonus What those points buy on a normal day, at 2 cents Cash for these five nights You save Cents per Chase point Without the bonus

W Maldives, same villa May 24 to 28, 2027 236,000 $4,720 $5,890 $1,170 2.5 1.5
The Westin Bora Bora, Lagoon View Overwater Bungalow Dec 10 to 15, 2026 220,000 $4,400 about $6,470 room only $2,070 2.9 1.7
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Ocean Pool Villa Feb 2 to 6, 2027 532,000 $10,640 $13,610 $2,970 2.6 1.5
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli, Overwater Villa May 29 to Jun 2, 2027 302,000 $6,040 at least $7,435 at least $1,395 2.5 1.5

Cash rates are Marriott's room rates with the taxes toggle off. Maldives cash stays add about 27% in tax that award stays do not, so the Maldives values above are understated. The "without the bonus" column is the same stay at Chase's everyday 1:1 transfer, which is why the deadline matters: after Thursday every row drops under 2 cents except the W Maldives in January.

The rest of this article walks through the Westin Bora Bora booking in full, because it is the cheapest in points and the one we screenshotted end to end, then prices the Maldives resorts the same way.

The Westin Bora Bora, worked through: what "45,000 points a night" is made of

The figure going around is real, but it is Chase points per night on a five-night stay, not a rate Marriott publishes. It has three parts, and all three have to hold:

  1. The hotel's standard award is an overwater bungalow. On the December 11 search, the cheapest points room was the "Lagoon View Overwater, Bungalow, 1 King" at 87,000 points. At most Bora Bora resorts the standard award is a garden or beach room and the overwater villa is a paid upgrade. Here it is the base room.
  2. Marriott's fifth night free. Book five consecutive award nights on one reservation and Marriott charges you for four.
  3. Chase's 70% transfer bonus. Until Thursday night, every 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points become 1,700 Marriott Bonvoy points.

Take any one away and the number changes. Without the bonus, the same five nights are 373,000 Chase points, 74,600 a night.

Marriott's rate list for The Westin Bora Bora, December 11 to 12, 2026: the Lagoon View Overwater Bungalow from 87,000 points, plus the 11,550 XPF daily destination fee. Read October 9, 2026.

The rule: Marriott's fifth night free

Marriott's program terms, under "Stay for 5, Pay for 4": a member who redeems points for five consecutive nights on one reservation "will only need to redeem Points for four nights," and the free night "applies to the night with the lowest Point redemption rate within the same Award Redemption Stay." If two nights tie at the lowest rate, the first of them is the free one.

The conditions that matter here: the stay has to be one confirmation number, not two bookings back to back; it applies to standard rooms, not Premium Rooms; and it does not apply to Cash + Points awards or to Free Night Award certificates. The overwater bungalow at 87,000 is the standard room, so it qualifies.

The bonus: Chase to Marriott at 70%, through October 15

Chase is paying a 70% bonus on Ultimate Rewards transfers to Marriott Bonvoy. Chase's transfer page, read inside the Chase app on October 10, says it plainly: "Get 70% bonus Marriott Bonvoy points when you transfer Ultimate Rewards points between 12:00 AM ET September 15, 2026 and 11:59 PM ET on October 15, 2026. Bonus points will be awarded by Marriott Bonvoy in your Marriott Bonvoy account up to 7 days after your transfer is complete." The same page sets the timing expectation for the base points: "Point transfers may take up to 7 business days, but most process by the next business day." So if you are booking against a specific date, transfer early enough that both the base points and the bonus are there when you book.

Chase's Ultimate Rewards transfer page for Marriott Bonvoy, read in the Chase app on October 10, 2026: 1,000 points = 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, +70% bonus, September 15 to October 15, 2026, 11:59 PM ET.

Transfers go through the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred, and they cannot be undone. The order that protects you is: find the dates on Marriott's calendar first, confirm the bonus in your Chase account, then transfer in 1,000-point blocks.

Where the cheap nights are

Marriott's flexible-dates calendar shows the lowest points rate for each night. We read it for every month from November 2026 to August 2027. The floor is 87,000 on December 11 and 12, and the two windows that price best for five nights are these:

Marriott's points calendar for The Westin Bora Bora, December 2026: 87,000 on December 11 and 12, marked LOW, 91,000 on December 10 and 94,000 on December 13. Read October 9, 2026.

Five-night stay Nightly rates on Marriott's calendar Free night Marriott points for the stay
December 10 to 15, 2026 91,000, 87,000, 87,000, 94,000, 101,000 87,000 (December 11) 373,000
February 6 to 11, 2027 90,000, 88,000, 91,000, 100,000, 100,000 88,000 (February 7) 381,000

Marriott's points calendar for The Westin Bora Bora, February 2027: 88,000 on February 7, marked LOW, 90,000 on February 6 and 91,000 on February 8. Read October 9, 2026.

The rest of the year runs higher: the lowest nights were 94,000 in November, 97,000 in March, 92,000 in April, 107,000 in June and 103,000 in August, with most nights between 95,000 and 115,000. Several dates in late March, April and May showed a cash copay on top of the points. December 6 to 9 showed no award space at all.

What the cash rate says

With the Points toggle off, the same Lagoon View Overwater Bungalow on December 11 was 149,300 XPF a night, and the Plunge Pool Beach Villa 150,250 XPF, both marked "almost sold out." Those prices include the 11,550 XPF destination fee. At the October 9 exchange rate, 149,300 XPF is about $1,400, and the room without the fee about $1,290. We read the cash rate for December 11 only; the other four nights in the window were not checked.

Marriott's cash rate list for The Westin Bora Bora, December 11 to 12, 2026: the Overwater Bungalow from 149,300 XPF a night including the 11,550 XPF destination fee, almost sold out. Read October 9, 2026.

The math for five nights

December 10 to 15 February 6 to 11
Marriott points after the fifth night free 373,000 381,000
Chase points to transfer at 70% (in 1,000-point blocks) 220,000 225,000
Chase points per night 44,000 45,000
Destination fee, paid in cash 57,750 XPF, about $540 59,950 XPF, about $565
Chase points without the bonus 373,000 381,000

At our values, 2.0 cents per Chase point and 0.77 cents per Marriott point, the 220,000 Chase points are worth about $4,400 and the 373,000 Marriott points about $2,870. Against a cash rate near $1,290 a night before the fee, five nights are about $6,470 of room. That is about 2.9 cents per Chase point with the bonus and 1.7 cents without it. The bonus is what moves this redemption from below our Chase value to above it.

Five more overwater resorts, priced the same way

Bora Bora is not the only Marriott where the bonus flips the math, so we ran the same three checks on every Marriott overwater resort in the Maldives and on the St. Regis Bora Bora: is the standard award an overwater villa, what is the lowest five-night window on the calendar, and what does the same villa cost in cash. All read on marriott.com on October 10, 2026, with the taxes toggle off; Maldives cash stays add about 27% in tax that award stays do not, so the points values below are conservative.

Hotel Standard award room Five-night window Marriott points after the free night Chase points at 70% Chase points a night Cash a night, same villa
W Maldives Superior Overwater Villa with private pool Jan 27 to 31, 2027 478,000 282,000 56,000 $2,185
W Maldives same May 24 to 28, 2027 400,000 236,000 47,000 $1,178
St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Overwater Villa Feb 15 to 19, 2027 808,000 476,000 95,000 $2,275
St. Regis Maldives Vommuli same May 29 to Jun 2, 2027 512,000 302,000 60,000 at least $1,487
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands Ocean Pool Villa Feb 2 to 6, 2027 904,000 532,000 106,000 $2,722

The W Maldives in late January is the strongest redemption on the list: a $2,185 overwater villa with its own pool for 56,000 Chase points a night, about 3.9 cents a point. Its late-May window is cheaper in points and in cash, and still comes out near 2.5 cents. The St. Regis Vommuli and the Ritz-Carlton pass too, at around 2.5 cents, but they need 300,000 to 530,000 Chase points for the week.

Four Marriott resorts failed the test and are worth knowing so you do not transfer for them:

Why this is the exception, not the rule

In our October transfer-bonus roundup we put Chase to Marriott at 70% under Chase's everyday best transfer, because 1,700 Marriott points at 0.77 cents are worth about $13 against $15 to $20 from Chase's airline partners. That still holds for a typical Marriott night. The Westin Bora Bora is different for one reason: its cash rate is about four times what the points usually buy, so the same 1,700 points cover far more. The bonus is worth taking when you have a specific stay priced, this one or one of the three Maldives windows above; it is not a reason to move points into Marriott and look for a use later.

The catches

How to book it

  1. Open Marriott's flexible-dates calendar for the hotel with the Points toggle on and find five consecutive nights at the low rates.
  2. Add the five nights, then subtract the lowest one. That is the Marriott balance you need.
  3. In your Chase account, open the transfer page; the 70% bonus badge sits under the Marriott Bonvoy line. Transfer in 1,000-point blocks: 220,000 Chase points become 374,000 Marriott points.
  4. Book all five nights on one reservation, in the standard room. Marriott applies the free night at checkout of the booking flow.
  5. Do it by Thursday, October 15 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern if you need the bonus. The award rates themselves have no deadline.
