Alaska Anchorage to Tokyo Nonstop in Points? From 30,000

Checked October 27, 2026 on Alaska Airlines' own pages: its route announcement, an award search and a cash search on alaskaair.com (one way, one adult, prices exactly as the search showed them), and the buy-points page, signed in to our own Atmos Rewards account. Facts are as of October 27, 2026.

Alaska Airlines announced its first nonstop between Anchorage and Tokyo Narita today, starting May 13, 2027. The seats are already on sale in cash and in Atmos Rewards points, and Alaska is running a buy-points sale at the same time.

Most people will see the $999 round-trip launch fare. The award search tells a different story: 30,000 points one way in Main, on a day the same seat costs $749.

TL;DR

The new route, from Alaska's announcement

Alaska calls it its "first nonstop service between Anchorage (ANC) and Tokyo Narita (NRT)." The schedule from its announcement:

Flight Dates Times (local) How often
Anchorage to Tokyo Narita May 13 to Sept. 7, 2027 2:10 p.m. to 3:25 p.m. the next day Daily; 3x weekly from January 2028
Tokyo Narita to Anchorage May 14 to Sept. 8, 2027 9:45 p.m. to 12 p.m. Daily; 3x weekly from January 2028

The plane is a Boeing 737 MAX 8. Alaska describes First Class as "recliner seats" with multi-course dining and Alaska Lounge access in Anchorage, and says Main Cabin and Premium Class get "a complimentary meal, including a hot entrée and dessert." The flight is 8 hours 15 minutes on the search.

Alaska is adding three summer routes from Anchorage too: Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Nashville, once a week on Saturdays, from June 12 to August 7, 2027.

The fine print: "All new routes are subject to government approval." The search labels the flight "Route pending government approval."

What the award search shows

The same nonstop, AS 21, on Tuesday, May 25, 2027:

AS 21, Anchorage to Tokyo Narita Points Cash, one way
Main 30,000 + $6 $749
First (recliner) 120,000 + $6 $2,502

In Main, that's ($749 minus $6) divided by 30,000 points: about 2.5 cents a point. In First it's about 2.1 cents. The cheapest cash fare that day was a $605 Saver fare, which isn't the same ticket as Main.

The search calendar's lowest price was 30,000 points on nine days between May 13 and June 4, and 35,000 to 42,500 on the others.

For a lie-flat seat, the one-stop through Seattle on Alaska's 787 priced at 200,000 points plus $6 in business on May 20, and 250,000 on the first connection on May 25. The nonstop has no lie-flat cabin; its premium seat is the First recliner.

Two travelers: the Summit card's 25,000-point companion award

The Atmos Rewards Summit card comes with a Global Companion Award. Bank of America's terms for the card say it's "valid for up to 25,000 Atmos™ Rewards points off a published award ticket" for a companion on the same itinerary, booked on alaskaair.com, and it "must be redeemed within 12 months of the date of issue."

On AS 21, that turns the second 30,000-point seat into 5,000 points:

AS 21, May 25, 2027, Main Points Cash
One traveler 30,000 + $6 $749
Two travelers, with the companion award 30,000 + 5,000 = 35,000, + $12 $1,498

That's ($1,498 minus $12) divided by 35,000 points: about 4.2 cents a point.

How the award comes: Alaska's Summit page offers "100,000 bonus points and a 25,000-point Global Companion Award" after $6,000 in purchases in the first 90 days, and another 25,000-point award every card anniversary. The annual fee is $395. Our Summit article compares Alaska's offer with Bank of America's, and our Paris trip used one of these awards on an American Airlines flight.

The points sale: up to 100% bonus through November 7

Alaska's buy-points page, signed in to our account on October 27, 2026: 80% bonus at 3,000+ points, 90% bonus at 10,000+ points, 100% bonus at 20,000+ points

At the 100% tier, our checkout showed 100,000 points plus 100,000 bonus points, 200,000 in total, for $3,500.00. That's 3.5 cents a point at the base price and 1.75 cents with the bonus, before tax.

From Alaska's offer terms:

Alaska's buy-points checkout on our account, October 27, 2026: 100,000 points plus a 100% bonus of 100,000, 200,000 total points, subtotal $3,500.00 USD

What the two Tokyo seats cost in bought points, at our tiers:

Seat on AS 21, May 25, 2027 Points needed Bought at our tiers With 7.5% tax and the award's $6 Cash fare
Main 30,000 16,000 + 14,400 bonus (90%) = $560 $608 $749
Two in Main, with the companion award 35,000 19,000 + 17,100 bonus (90%) = $665 $726.88 $1,498
First (recliner) 120,000 60,000 + 60,000 bonus (100%) = $2,100 $2,263.50 $2,502

At about 1.88 cents with tax, bought points cost more than the 1.55 cents we value them at. So buying only pays when a seat like this one is already priced, and our October article on the last Atmos sale priced five more routes the same way.

Alaska can show different members different offers, so the tiers on your page are the ones that apply to you. Atmos Members Day, the first Wednesday of the month, falls inside the sale on November 4.

How to check your own

  1. Search Anchorage to Tokyo Narita on alaskaair.com with points, then the same date in cash, and compare the same cabin.
  2. Sign in and open the buy-points page to see your own tiers before you count on a price per point.
  3. Price the exact seat first, then work out how many points you need to buy to reach it.
  4. Check the route's status before you plan around it. Alaska says it's subject to government approval.
