Boundless ($95/yr, up to 4 free nights bonus) vs Bountiful ($250/yr, 85K bonus). Boundless wins for casual Marriott guests; Bountiful wins for 15+ nights/year. Math + realistic credit redemption breakdown.
Marriott Bonvoy Boundless ($95/yr, 4 Free Night Awards as bonus) is the entry-level Marriott card. Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful ($250/yr, 85K bonus points) is the mid-tier. They earn at the same rates on Marriott spend (6x) but differ on fee, status, and welcome bonus structure.
The math that decides it: if you stay at Marriott 5+ nights/year, Boundless's 1 free night anniversary award (worth $200-300/yr) covers its $95 fee with no math required. Bountiful's $250 fee is a tougher sell — you need 10+ Marriott stays/year + active use of the $300 hotel credit to make the math work. Both cards earn the same Bonvoy points; the differentiator is fee tolerance vs benefit depth.
You're picking between Chase's two Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. Most reviews compare them on welcome bonus alone — that's incomplete. The real decision is about which annual benefits actually pay off your fee and whether you have the stay volume to justify the higher tier. For the full Marriott lineup beyond just these two cards, see our Marriott Bonvoy complete guide.
This piece breaks down both cards, the math on each free night value, and when each wins your situation.
| Marriott Bonvoy Boundless | Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful | |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome bonus | 4 Free Night Awards (up to 50,000 points each) | 85,000 Bonvoy points |
| Spend required | $3,000 in 3 months | $4,000 in 3 months |
| Annual fee | $95 | $250 |
| Bonus ceiling at our 0.8¢/Bonvoy valuation | 4 awards × up to 50,000 pts = 200,000 pts ≈ $1,600 | 85,000 pts ≈ $680 |
| Redemption flexibility | Each Free Night Award covers one night at a property priced up to 50,000 points | Points fully transferable, redeemable at any property |
Boundless now pays its welcome bonus in free nights, not points — 4 Free Night Awards after $3,000 of spending in the first 3 months, for a $95 fee. Each award covers one night at a property priced up to 50,000 points. Book four nights that each price near that ceiling and the awards are worth about $1,600 at our 0.8-cent valuation. Book four cheap nights and you still get four free nights, but far less value, because an award buys one night whatever that night would have cost.
Bountiful pays 85,000 points instead, and points are the more flexible currency — split them across cheap nights, stretch them, or top them up from your own balance. The card costs $250. Which welcome bonus is bigger depends entirely on where you redeem: at 50,000-point properties the four Boundless awards are worth roughly double Bountiful's points, and at 15,000-point properties they are worth less.
Heads up: Marriott rotates these offers constantly — Boundless has run point-based versions and 3-, 4-, and 5-Free-Night versions before. The current public offer is 4 Free Night Awards after $3,000 in 3 months; always check Chase's site for the live offer before you apply. For what each of those four certificates is actually worth once you redeem it, see the Boundless certificate math.
| Category | Boundless | Bountiful |
|---|---|---|
| Marriott Bonvoy properties | 6x | 6x |
| Restaurants worldwide | 3x | 4x (Marriott + select dining) |
| Gas stations | 3x | 4x (Marriott + select gas) |
| Grocery stores | 3x | 4x (Marriott + select groceries) |
| Other Marriott + select retailers | 3x | — |
| Everything else | 2x | 2x |
Bountiful's earn rate is slightly higher on dining + gas + groceries (4x vs 3x), but only at SELECT retailers. The "select retailers" qualifier is meaningful — not every grocery store earns 4x, just those Marriott Bonvoy partners with.
For typical spending: the difference between 3x and 4x on $5K of dining/gas/groceries amounts to ~5,000 points/year worth ~$35. Not the deciding factor.
Boundless ($95/yr) annual benefits:
Math: the anniversary Free Night Award is worth ~$245 at our 0.7¢/pt valuation, fully covering the $95 fee with no further effort. The Boundless effectively pays itself off through the anniversary night alone.
Bountiful ($250/yr) annual benefits:
Math: Bountiful's anniversary Free Night Award is worth ~$350 at our valuation. Plus the $300 hotel credit IF you book Marriott direct ($25/mo for 12 months — lose any month you don't book). Realistic credit redemption: 60-80% = $180-240/yr.
Total Bountiful realized value: $530-590/yr vs $250 fee = $280-340/yr net positive, IF you stay at Marriott regularly enough to redeem the credits.
For someone who stays at Marriott less than once a month: the $300 hotel credit doesn't redeem, dropping Bountiful's net value to just the anniversary night ($350 - $250 fee = $100/yr net). At that point, Boundless ($95 fee for ~$245 anniversary night = $150/yr net) is cheaper and similarly valuable.
| Status | Boundless | Bountiful |
|---|---|---|
| Auto status | Silver Elite | Gold Elite |
| Suite upgrades | None | When available |
| Free breakfast | Only at certain brands | Some brands |
| Late checkout | None | Yes |
| Room upgrades | None | Yes |
Marriott elite status differences:
For frequent Marriott guests, Gold status's room upgrades and 2pm checkout are real value. For occasional Marriott guests, the upgrade probability is low and the status's marginal value is minimal.

A common misconception: Marriott points are like Hyatt/Hilton points. They're not.
Marriott Bonvoy values (October 2026):

Hilton values:
Implication: Marriott points are worth less per point than Hyatt's, but Marriott has more properties and broader brand coverage. The right card depends on where you actually stay.
If you stay at Hyatt: get a Sapphire Preferred and transfer UR to Hyatt. Don't bother with a Marriott card. If you're unsure whether the entry-level or premium version of that card is the better call, our Sapphire Preferred vs Sapphire Reserve breakdown walks through both. If you stay at Marriott specifically: the Boundless or Bountiful is the right card.
Marriott has a tangled co-issuer history with both Chase and Amex. Key eligibility rules:
For most users: you get one Marriott card. Pick wisely.
Boundless wins for the casual Marriott guest (4-15 nights/year). The $95 fee is fully covered by the anniversary Free Night Award alone, and the four-Free-Night welcome bonus is worth up to ~$1,600 in year one if you book nights near the 50,000-point ceiling.
Bountiful wins for the frequent Marriott guest (15+ nights/year). The $250 fee covers via the anniversary Free Night + monthly hotel credits + Gold status perks.
For most U.S. travelers: take the Boundless first. The math is forgiving, the welcome bonus is meaningful, and you can upgrade to Bountiful later if your stay volume grows.
If you stay at Marriott 20+ nights/year and book through Marriott.com directly: Bountiful's combined benefits typically deliver $300-400/yr net positive value vs the $95 Boundless's $150/yr. The premium tier earns its keep at high volume.
