Alaska Airlines' new Atmos Rewards program shows dramatically higher award costs, with some routes jumping 50-80% overnight.
Members of Alaska Airlines' Atmos Rewards program — the successor to its beloved Mileage Plan — are reporting dramatically higher award prices on popular routes. Some domestic flights that previously cost 12,500 miles are now pricing at 20,000-25,000 miles, while premium cabin awards to Asia have nearly doubled.
Alaska transitioned to the Atmos Rewards dynamic pricing model in January 2026, replacing the traditional award chart that had made Mileage Plan one of the most predictable programs in the industry. The new system prices awards based on demand, route, and cabin class — similar to what Delta SkyMiles has done for years.
Alaska Airlines issued a statement saying the pricing reflects "market-based valuations" and that members will still find "excellent value across hundreds of routes." The airline also pointed to new earning bonuses on its co-branded credit card as offsetting the higher redemption costs.
Some in the points community speculate that the algorithm may still be calibrating. Early dynamic pricing systems often show inflated prices before settling into more reasonable ranges. However, the pattern is consistent enough that this appears to be intentional.
