Rakuten Is Paying 100% Cash Back on Coveron Today, and 110% If You Hold Their Amex: What the Terms Actually Cover

Coveron is Rakuten's Big Deal Reveal for September 9, 2026 at 100% cash back against a 20% everyday rate, and 110% for Rakuten Amex cardholders that day. The rate pays on one subscription's first payment for new users only, so the plan you pick decides what you get back, and the renewal price is where it stops being free.

Rakuten Is Paying 100% Cash Back on Coveron Today, and 110% If You Hold Their Amex: What the Terms Actually Cover

Rakuten's Big Deal Reveal for Wednesday, September 9, 2026 is Coveron at 100% cash back, against an everyday rate of 20% on the same store. Rakuten's description of the series is "Each offer is available for one day only."

At 100%, the cash back equals what you paid. That is the headline, and it is real. It is also narrower than it sounds, and the difference between the headline and the terms is worth about $600 depending on which plan you pick.

What the 100% actually applies to

Verbatim from the store page: "Cash Back is only available for new users and on the first payment of a subscription plan. Limited to one per member."

So it is not 100% on anything you buy from Coveron. It is 100% on the first payment of one subscription, once, and only if you are new to the service.

One more line matters if you have been reading us for a while. Coveron used to be NordProtect, and their page addresses that directly: "NordProtect is now Coveron. If you have already earned Cash Back with NordProtect, you are not eligible for Cash Back with Coveron." If you took the NordProtect deal earlier this year, this one is not open to you.

The first payment is the whole decision

Because the rate pays on the first payment, the plan you choose decides what you get back. These are Coveron's prices, read from their pricing page today. The left column is what you pay to start. The right column is the price they show struck through next to it.

Plan What you pay to start Price shown struck through
Scam Protection, 1 year $47.88 for the first 12 months $119.88
Identity Theft Protection, 1 year $71.88 for the first 12 months $191.88
Full Protection, 1 year $119.88 for the first 12 months $335.88
Scam Protection, 2 year $71.76 for the first 24 months $239.76
Identity Theft Protection, 2 year $119.76 for the first 24 months $383.76
Full Protection, 2 year $215.76 for the first 24 months $671.76

Coveron's terms say they charge "for the upcoming Subscription period in advance," so a two year plan is a single payment now rather than a monthly draw. The number on the checkout screen is the number the cash back is calculated from, so read it there before you pay.

The renewal is where this stops being free

From Coveron's terms: "The price of our Services in the introductory offers displayed to you on our Website is valid only for the first period of your Subscription and are subject to change on the automatic renewal."

Compare the two columns above. Full Protection starts at $215.76 for two years and shows a list price of $671.76. The subscription renews on its own unless you cancel. If it renews near that list price, one missed cancellation costs roughly three times what the cash back paid you.

Coveron says they will email you thirty days before renewal with the price and cancellation instructions. Set your own reminder the day you buy anyway, because a promotional email thirty days out is the easiest thing in the world to miss.

There is a related trap. The store page says "Cash Back is not available on refunded orders," and Coveron separately advertises a 30 day money back guarantee. You can take the refund or you can take the cash back. Not both.

Today only: 110% for Rakuten American Express cardholders

From the same page: "Rakuten American Express Cardholders can earn 110% Cash Back on eligible online Coveron purchases made through Rakuten on September 9, 2026."

Rakuten breaks the number down themselves: 100% from Coveron, the 4% you always earn on eligible purchases with that card, and an extra 6% promotional layer for cardholders. On a $215.76 first payment that is $237.34 back, which is $21.58 more than you paid.

Two limits ride along with it. These purchases count toward the $10,000 Rakuten purchase cap for the calendar year. And eligibility runs on merchant category codes, which Rakuten says are "determined and managed by Imprint and Rakuten and are subject to change at any time." A purchase that codes to an unexpected category can miss the card portion, which is the same mechanism that quietly pays a lower rate than the category on the card suggests.

If you take it as Bilt Points instead

Rakuten can pay out as Bilt Points rather than cash. The conversion is per dollar of cash back, not per dollar spent: 50 points per dollar for Blue, 100 points per dollar for Silver, Gold and Platinum.

First payment Cash back at 100% Bilt, Blue Bilt, Silver, Gold and Platinum
$47.88 $47.88 2,394 4,788
$119.88 $119.88 5,994 11,988
$215.76 $215.76 10,788 21,576

Your rate depends on your Bilt status on the payout date, not on the day you buy.

When the money shows up

The store page says "Cash Back will be automatically added to your Rakuten account today," which is faster than most. Added is not paid. Rakuten pays on its quarterly schedule, and cash back normally sits in pending for weeks while the merchant confirms the sale was not refunded.

How not to lose the tracking

Start at Rakuten, every time. Open the store page, confirm it still shows 100%, click through, and finish the purchase in that session. A tab you already had open on Coveron's own site will not track. If you apply a coupon you found elsewhere during checkout, the sale can be credited to that source instead and the cash back disappears.

Should you buy it

Only if you actually want identity monitoring. A free year of a service you will not open is not a deal, it is a renewal you have to remember to cancel. The cleanest version of this is one of the cheaper plans, where the first payment comes back in full and a forgotten renewal is survivable. The riskiest is the largest multi year plan bought purely for the rebate, because that is where a missed cancellation costs the most.

Rate, exclusions and special terms read from rakuten.com/shop/nordprotect on September 9, 2026. Plan prices and renewal wording read from coveron.com/pricing and Coveron's terms of service the same day. Coveron kept the NordProtect store slug through the rebrand. The offer is one day only and rates change without notice; the store page is the source of truth for whether it is still live.
