Starting June 15, 2026, Chase upgraded the Sapphire Preferred with 3x gas/EV, 3x vacation rentals, a doubled $100 hotel credit, and a Global Entry credit — same $95 fee. The catches: the 10% anniversary bonus ends and Hyatt transfers drop to 4:3 on this card.
TL;DR: Starting June 15, 2026, Chase upgraded the Sapphire Preferred and kept the $95 annual fee. New: 3x on gas and EV charging, 3x on vacation rentals (Airbnb, Vrbo, and similar), the Chase Travel hotel credit doubles to $100, a new $120 Global Entry/TSA PreCheck/NEXUS credit every four years, Emergency Evacuation coverage up to $100,000, and a year of Apple TV. Two catches: the 10% anniversary points bonus is going away for new applicants, and Chase points transfer to Hyatt at 4:3 (down from 1:1) on the Preferred specifically.
This is the biggest Sapphire Preferred change in years, and most of it is upside. Here's exactly what's new, what's worth money, and the two downgrades you should know about.

Dining stays at 3x — it was never cut. There's also limited-time 5x on Lyft through September 30, 2027, and 5x on Peloton equipment over $150 through December 31, 2027.
1. The 10% anniversary points bonus is ending. Apply on or after June 15, 2026, and you don't get it. If you applied before then, you keep earning it on purchases through October 1, 2026, paid out by January 31, 2027.
2. Hyatt transfers drop to 4:3, but only on this card. Ultimate Rewards points now move to World of Hyatt at 4:3 instead of 1:1 on the Sapphire Preferred (and the Ink Business Preferred). That means 1,000 points become 750 Hyatt points — roughly 133 Chase points for every 100 Hyatt points. It's effective immediately for new applicants and October 1, 2026, for existing cardmembers.
Here's the part the announcement buries: the Sapphire Reserve, Freedom, and Freedom Unlimited keep the 1:1 Hyatt transfer. So if Hyatt is your sweet spot, hold one of those cards and transfer your points from there instead. Hyatt is the single best use of Chase points, so this matters if that's your game.
For everyday spending, yes. Gas at 3x is the big one — at $250 a month on gas, that's about 9,000 points a year you weren't earning before, worth roughly $180 at our 2¢-per-point valuation. Add the doubled hotel credit (about $50 more a year) and the Global Entry credit (around $30 a year amortized), and you pick up real value with no fee increase. The welcome bonus is unchanged: 75,000 points after $5,000 spend in three months, about $1,500 at our valuation.
The honest trade-off is Hyatt. If transferring to Hyatt is your strategy, the Preferred just got worse at it, and you'd want the Reserve or a Freedom card for those transfers. For everyone else, this is simply a better $95 card.
The Preferred stays the value pick at $95. The Reserve costs a lot more but keeps the 1:1 Hyatt transfer and layers on bigger travel credits and lounge access. When do the new Sapphire Preferred benefits start? June 15, 2026, for both new and existing cardmembers. Existing cardmembers get an email that day.
Did the annual fee go up? No. It stays $95.
Does the Sapphire Preferred still earn 3x on dining? Yes. Dining stays at 3x worldwide, including takeout and eligible delivery. The refresh added gas/EV and vacation rentals; it didn't cut anything you earn on dining.
